This series is an ongoing photography project which Ghasemi started in 2005. Originally, it was created to represent another side of Tehran, in Iran, in contrast to the unfavourable images which were often produced in international media. The project deals with issues of public vs private and it includes bright colourful photos and video clips as well as music portraying alternative and social scenes of life happening, like anywhere else in the world.
Ghasemi began Tehran Remixed in response to his discovery of 'media' images of his hometown Tehran at the time which he believed were distorted, pushed toward racial extremes and dominated by images of suppression. He expressed that the images "portrayed a young population who, instead of looking towards expanding its social liberty, is having fun enjoying the last years of a reformist state in power." The series is also Ghasemi's first attempt at experimenting with documentary photography and manipulating it in order to tell stories, while at the same time giving people privacy in their personal lives. |
Luxembourg is a UK based German photographer, born in 1967 who tends to photograph at night and mostly explores urban landscapes. Her work concerns the representation of the city and how it affects and reflects the population. She combines many different formats such as large scale photographic works. Primarily, she uses a 5x4 film camera to capture these images as well as long exposures which creates a 'glow' in the image and draws the viewer in, allowing them to spend time looking at the final image as luxembourg did first exploring and then photographing each area.

Mise en scene: A large council estate photographed at night towering over the rest of the landscape. There's a high contrast created between the night and the lights glowing in the building. Process: 5x4 film camera with a long exposure. Before taking the final images she goes ‘wandering’ to look for subjects that draw her in and compositions in the environment that catch her eye. Content: A photograph of the now demonlished, once notorious Heygate estate. Luxemburg's use of colour in this image such as the artificial orange and yellow lights shown present a false sense of hope in an estate based in Elephant and Castle which was renowned for it's many social problems. |

In this series Atget documents Paris before it's modernisation, taking pictures between 1898-1915. He intended to capture the beauty of the architecture and architectural decoration of the Old Paris before it underwent a radical physical transformation (which began in the mid 19th century).

In This series Yokoto uses layers and exposures to create texture and vibrancy in his images. He starts on film developing and printing the image and then re photographs the images and if necessary repeats the process. He finally prints onto acetate and layers his images ontop of colour and other images.
